Zapier

Overview

Zapier lets you connect Parklio to 2,000+ other web services. Automated connections called Zaps, set up in minutes with no coding, can automate your day-to-day tasks and build workflows between apps that otherwise wouldn't be possible.

Each Zap has one app as the Trigger, where your information comes from and which causes one or more Actions in other apps, where your data gets sent automatically.

Getting started

Sign up for a free Zapier account. Once you're in, you're ready to go.

To help you hit the ground running, click here for some popular pre-made Zaps.

Prerequisites

Before you can use Parklio actions in Zapier, ensure the following conditions are met:

  • You need to have an active API subscription for the product you plan to manage via Zapier. To get one go here.
  • You have an active Parklio Gateway installed and configured.
  • You have at least one device added to your Parklio account that is assigned to the same Lot as the Gateway.

These requirements ensure that remote actions like opening and closing devices can be executed successfully through Zapier.

Supported actions

Parklio offers the following actions to use in your Zaps:

  • Open Product — Remotely open a Parklio product.
  • Close Product — Remotely close a Parklio product.
  • List Owned Products — Retrieve a list of all Parklio products associated with your account.
  • Create Shared Key Action — Shares device access keys with a specified user, whether existing or new.

How actions work

When a Zap runs, Parklio communicates with your devices through the Parklio Gateway. Each command — such as opening or closing a product — is sent to the relevant device based on its assignment to a specific Lot. The List Owned Products action fetches your devices and can be used to dynamically populate options in other Zap steps.

To ensure successful execution, check Prerequisites.

Use cases

Here are some common ways users automate Parklio with Zapier:

  • Automatic barrier opening — Open a parking barrier when a visitor books an appointment in a scheduling tool (e.g. Calendly, Google Calendar).
  • Scheduled closure for overnight security — Automatically close all Parklio barriers at a specific time each night using a scheduled trigger (e.g. Zapier's Schedule tool) to ensure all parking spaces are secured after business hours.
  • Real-time notifications for barrier activity — Send instant notifications to your team via Slack, Microsoft Teams, or email whenever a Parklio product is opened or closed. This improves visibility into site access and helps monitor unauthorized use.

These use cases can help reduce manual management and improve parking space efficiency.

Tips for reliable automation

To make the most of Parklio actions in Zapier:

  • Use List Owned Products at the beginning of a Zap when dynamic device selection is needed.
  • Add conditional steps or filters to ensure the product you're interacting with is available and in the correct state.
  • Log all actions (e.g. by sending results to Google Sheets or Slack) for better monitoring and troubleshooting.

FAQ

Why isn’t my device opening or closing when the action is triggered in Zapier?

Please verify that your Parklio Gateway is online and properly connected. Also, ensure the device is responsive and can be controlled via the Parklio Connect app. If it cannot be operated manually through the app, the Zap will also fail to execute.

Where can I find the product_id required for the Open/Close actions?

You can locate the product_id in the Parklio Parking Management System by selecting the desired product and checking the Details tab. Alternatively, you can use the List Owned Products action in Zapier, then take the data.id value from the response to get the available product_ids linked to your account.

Which products are compatible with the Open and Close actions?

The Open and Close actions can be used with the following Parklio products: Barrier, Chain Gate, Bollard, and the Parklio Brain.
