# API tokens

An API Token is a long-lived credential issued to an
Account for machine-to-machine access, used in place of an Account
User's password login. It is the mechanism behind the API account role:
any account holding a valid API Token can call the same v2 endpoints as
an authenticated Account User, scoped to that account's own resources.
